FUNCTIONS
The public health and community services functions fall within the Ministry of Education, Health and Community Services.
The Ministry of Health Headquarters, the Department of Health and the Department of Community Services have the responsibility for providing health services and community services to the residents of Montserrat on behalf of the Government of Montserrat. Specifically they provide primary and secondary health services, and community services to the community along with health policy advice to the Government.
To fulfil its function the health and community services areas are structured into three divisions; the Ministry of Health, Department of Health, and Department of Community Services.

Primary Health |
Health care services are usually provided at the first point of contact in the community e.g. clinics, environmental health, dental, nutrition and health promotion.

Secondary Health Care Services |
Health services provided at the hospital generally accessed via casualty and referral from the primary care level to include geriatric care.

|
Planning & Policy |
The Planning and Policy area is responsible for developing the planning approach and undertaking the policy analysis to support and strengthen the health system. The Planning and Policy area also reviews and enforces the legislation that the Ministry is responsible for administering.
